Job summary

Schaumburg Surgery Center in Schaumburg, IL is seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to support orthopedic procedures in a fast-paced operating room. The role requires CST credentials, BLS, and hands-on scrub experience, with rotation across early shifts and late shifts as needed.

Primary duties include preparing the OR, maintaining sterile technique, assisting with instrument setup, counts, and collaboration with surgeons, RNs, anesthesia, and support staff.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology program.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
  • BLS certification.
  • Hands-on surgical scrub experience.
  • Orthopedic OR experience, Total Joint Experience.
  • Knowledge of sterile technique and OR workflow.
  • Ability to set up and maintain a sterile field independently.
  • Ability to anticipate procedural needs and instruments.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the OR for scheduled procedures including instruments, supplies, equipment, implants, and positioning.
  • Open sterile supplies using aseptic technique.
  • Set up sterile field and organize instruments by procedure and surgeon preference.
  • Scrub orthopedic procedures and anticipate surgeon needs.
  • Maintain sterile technique and address breaks in sterility.
  • Perform counts with circulating RN per SSC policy.
  • Handle specimens, medications, implants, sharps, and surgical supplies per policy.
  • Assist with room turnover and prep for next procedure.
  • Inspect instruments/equipment for function and report defects.
  • Work with RNs, surgeons, anesthesia, SPD, Materials, radiology, and vendors.
  • Participate in preference-card accuracy, supply conservation, and efficient instrumentation use.
  • Follow infection prevention, sharps safety, surgical safety, and regulatory requirements.

Job description

  • Scheduled between 6:15am - 3:30pm with occasional rotating late shifts until 5:00pm on Tuesday - Thursday

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare the operating room for scheduled procedures, including instruments, supplies, equipment, implants, and positioning needs.
  • Open sterile supplies and instrumentation using proper aseptic technique.
  • Set up the sterile field and organize instruments according to procedure and surgeon preference.
  • Scrub orthopedic procedures and anticipate the surgeon's needs throughout the case.
  • Maintain strict sterile technique and immediately identify and address breaks in sterility.
  • Perform initial, closing, and additional required counts with the circulating RN in accordance with SSC policy.
  • Handle specimens, medications, implants, sharps, and surgical supplies according to facility policy.
  • Assist with room turnover, cleaning, restocking, and preparation for the next procedure.
  • Inspect instruments and equipment for proper function and communicate defects or missing items promptly.
  • Work collaboratively with RNs, surgeons, anesthesia, SPD, Materials, radiology, and vendor representatives.
  • Participate in preference-card accuracy, supply conservation, and efficient use of instrumentation.
  • Follow infection prevention, sharps safety, surgical safety, and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology program.
  • Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Hands-on surgical scrub experience.
  • Orthopedic OR experience, Total Joint Experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, counts, sharps safety, and OR workflow.
  • Ability to set up and maintain a sterile field independently.
  • Ability to recognize common surgical instruments and anticipate procedural needs.
  • Strong attention to detail, communication, teamwork, and situational awareness.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced surgical environment and adapt to schedule changes.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the OR, including prolonged standing and moving/lifting equipment and supplies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of surgical technologist experience.
  • Ambulatory surgery center experience.
  • Begins at $33.00/hour (hourly rate may increase based on experience)
