Ascension is seeking an OR Surgical Assistant in Indianapolis, IN, at St. Vincent, for full-time daytime schedules. You will position patients, assist with visualization of the operative field, and help achieve hemostasis while supporting the surgeon and the team.
The role requires BLS within 30 days and NBSTSA/NCCSA/ABSA surgical assistant credentials prior to hire, with an educational path ranging from a high school diploma to an associate/tech degree or equivalent experience.

How you’ll make an impact in this role
Position patient to give best exposure for surgical procedure, using stabilizing equipment when necessary, while maximizing patient comfort and safety.
Provide visualization of the operative site using appropriate method, including manipulation of tissue and materials, retraction, sponging, suctioning and irrigation.
Utilize appropriate technique to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis.
Assist with body plane closure, application of wound dressings and securing of drainage systems.
Assist in room clean up and the removal of the soiled case cart, supplies, and trash from OR room as needed at the completion of the surgical case.
Participate as a surgical team member in the preparation of the surgical suite according to surgeon's preference cards with appropriate instruments, resources and supplies.
What minimum requirements you’ll need
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
One or more of the following required:
Surgical Assistant credentialed from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
Surgical Assistant credentialed from the National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants (NCCSA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
Surgical Assistant credentialed from the American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
