Job summary

UCI Health seeks a Laboratory Technician to support specimen processing and phlebotomy in the Referral Lab, performing accessioning, specimen collection (including mobile routes), and drug test monitoring.

You will review lab reports, troubleshoot issues, prepare specimens for testing, and coordinate dispatch to outside labs as needed.

Required: lab procedures knowledge, strong communication skills, and State of California Phlebotomy License (Certified Phlebotomy Tech I).

Qualifications

Technical knowledge of lab procedures, functions and processes gained through education, experience or a combination of the two
Strong written and verbal communication skills
State of California Phlebotomy License (Certified Phlebotomy Tech I)
Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
Prefer one year of phlebotomy experience or completion of UCI phlebotomy program

Responsibilities

Perform specimen processing and accessioning in the Referral Lab.
Perform various types of specimen collection, phlebotomy (including mobile route) and drug test monitoring.
Review lab reports and perform quality review and troubleshooting, resolving problems as they occur.
Prepare specimens for testing, accessioning and packaging for dispatch to outside labs according to written protocols.
