Job summary

University of California, Irvine (UCI) Health is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to perform specimen processing, accessioning, and phlebotomy on-site, including mobile routes. The role supports lab client services and ensures timely, accurate handling of specimens and reports.

Qualifications

• Technical knowledge of lab procedures, functions and processes gained through education, experience or a combination of the two
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• State of California Phlebotomy License (Certified Phlebotomy Tech I)
• Must provide proof of vehicle insurance in compliance with UC policy
• Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
• Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
• Employment contingent upon completion of satisfactory background investigation. Position is subject to the California DMV's Pull Notice System and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.
• Current State of California Driver's License
• Access to reliable, personal transportation in order to commute to and from various offsite locations
• Ability to pass EKG competency test
• Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System

Responsibilities

• Performs specimen processing and accessioning in the Referral Lab.
• Performs various types of specimen collection, phlebotomy (including mobile route) and drug test monitoring.
• Reviews lab reports and performs quality review and troubleshooting, resolving problems as they occur.
• Serves as member of laboratory client services team.
• May prepare specimens for testing, accessioning and packaging for dispatch to outside labs according to written protocols.
