General Function

Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service. Assists pharmacists in the preparation and distribution of prescription medications. Licensed through a national certification program as a pharmacy technician.

Reporting Relations

Reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Health Wellness Home, Store Operations and Perishables; Pharmacy Department Manager, Staff Pharmacists

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions.
• Greets customers in a friendly manner and makes an effort to learn and use their names.
• Assists customers with product location, handling out-of-reach items, heavy lifting, and passing along suggestions or requests.
• Answers phone calls promptly and courteously.
• Works as part of a team to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Handles inquiries that do not require a pharmacist’s judgment.
• Accepts new prescriptions and refill requests under pharmacist supervision.
• Gathers patient information, assists in prescription preparation, labels containers, and prepares prescriptions for mailing.
• Prepares insurance claims, files prescriptions, reports medication errors, and maintains pharmacy supplies.
• Performs cash transactions, maintains cleanliness, and assists with insurance billing and troubleshooting.
• Adheres to all regulations, policies, and guidelines, including those related to hazardous drugs handling.
• Administers vaccines as legally permitted.

Secondary Duties And Responsibilities

• Assists in other store areas as needed and performs special projects.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics

Education And Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certified through a recognized national program and maintains continuing education.
• Experience as a pharmacy technician preferred; vaccination certification as required by law.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally and 10 pounds frequently.
• Visual and physical activities including climbing, stooping, reaching, standing, and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions

Fast-paced retail environment with occasional exposure to chemicals and hazardous drugs.

Equipment Used

Pharmacy software, printer, cash register, and other standard equipment.

Confidentiality

Maintains customer privacy according to HIPAA regulations.

Contacts

Daily contact with customers, public, and vendors; occasional contact with regulatory agencies.
