Job summary

Beacon Health System in Indiana seeks a skilled Medical Coder to review, code, and abstract patient records for accurate data entry and DRG assignment for Medicare and other payors. This role uses ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding principles to ensure proper sequencing and billing.

Candidates should hold RHIT/RHIA/CCS/CPC/CPC-H/CCA credentials, with knowledge of DRG optimization and a minimum of one year coding experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology for coding
• Understanding of DRG assignment and coding guidelines
• Familiarity with state and federal reimbursement rules and CMS guidelines
• Accuracy and numerical data skills for coding and abstracting
• Interpersonal and written communication for teamwork and documentation

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze discharged records to ensure complete data for coding
• Code all inpatient and outpatient records using ICD-9-CM and CPT-4
• Assign DRG/APC to Medicare/Medicaid and others with grouper software
• Abstract professional E&M codes and technical procedures into the system
• Enter charges accurately for ED and OBS charts when applicable
