Job summary

Henry Ford Health is seeking a Medical Record Coding professional to review medical records and abstract data for reimbursement and research. The role focuses on accurate MS-DRG assignment, coding compliance, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines and regulations.

Required are RHIT/RHIA/CCS/CCA certifications or degree in Medical Record Sciences, with certification eligibility within six months if applicable. Prior coding experience is welcome but not mandatory.

Qualifications

• Degree in Medical Record Sciences preferred but not required or certification in RHIT/RHIA/CCS/CCA.
• RHIT/RHIA certification eligibility must be obtained within six months of employment.
• Prior coding experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Identifies all diagnostic and operative procedures and other patient stay data from records for MS-DRG assignment and reimbursement.
• Assigns diagnostic and procedural codes using encoder software.
• Sequences principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures according to MS-DRG guidelines.
• Verifies completeness of medical records and reports discrepancies.
• Completes discharge abstracts by gathering stay data and coded information.
• Maintains knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies to ensure ethical and compliant coding.
