Job summary

UNC Health in Durham is seeking a Medical Assistant II, Certified to provide routine clinical and administrative support in an outpatient clinic. The role works under clinical supervision for patient care and under a manager for daily operations.

Responsibilities include rooming and intake, collecting vitals, reviewing meds and allergies, assisting providers, drawing blood, and performing tests. One year of MA experience and MA certification are required or preferred.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform essential functions outlined in job duties.
• Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Engage positively with patients and families and work with staff.
• Use a computer to document required information into EMR.

Responsibilities

• Room patients and collect vitals, height, weight and visit reason.
• Gather medical and social history from patients and families.
• Review medications, allergies and preferred pharmacy.
• Assist provider during treatments and procedures as directed.
• Collect specimens and perform phlebotomy.
• Administer medications under a provider's direction.
• Perform tests such as EKGs and eye exams under supervision.
• Prepare exam rooms with supplies and educational materials.
• Assist with registration, check-in/out, scheduling, and referrals.
• Answer clinic calls and support in-basket under supervision.
• Respond to emergency situations as directed.
• Precept and train new medical assistants; support clinic safety and audits.
