Job summary

Duke Health's Otolaryngology clinic in Mebane is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to support both clinical and administrative duties. The Medical Assistant will assist physicians with patient care, perform vital signs, documentation, medication administration, and help with procedures in a multi-clinic setting.

Ideal candidates hold a CAAHEP/ABHES-accredited MA program, current certification, and a BLS certification, with 1 year of clinic experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program (CAAHEP/ABHES) strongly preferred.
• High school or GED graduation required.
• Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required.
• 1 year prior experience in a clinic setting preferred.
• BLS required.

Responsibilities

• Perform intake with patients to include vital signs, visit information, and other clinical data.
• Perform telephone message taking with patients, document encounter, follow clinic protocols, and inform provider.
• Administer medications to patients as ordered or per protocols following the six rights of medication administration.
• Assist providers with procedures.
• Participate in performance improvement projects.
• Set up for clinical procedures, maintain high level disinfection & sterilization, and other tasks within scope of practice.
• Attain prior authorizations for medications and durable medical equipment as indicated.
• Float in clinic to cover patient and provider needs as delegated by nurse manager or supervisor.
• Other duties as assigned by clinic leadership.

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a Medical Assistant, Certified responsible for performing a variety of duties depending on whether it is a small clinic, large medical practice, multi-clinic, or a specialty office. They may be involved in both the clinical and administrative areas including assisting physicians with patient care and handling clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Administer medications to patients as ordered by providers or by established protocols following the six rights of medication administration.
• Assists providers with procedures.

• Performs tasks such as set up for clinical procedures, high level disinfection & sterilization or other miscellaneous appropriate tasks within scope of practice.
• Attain prior authorizations for medications and durable medical equipment as indicated.
• Float in clinic to cover patient and provider needs as delegated by nurse manager, health center administrator, charge nurse, or nurse team lead.
• Other duties as assigned by clinic leadership.

JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

• Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant programaccredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred.
• High school or GED graduation required.
• Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required.
• 1 year prior experience in a clinic setting preferred
• BLS required
