Job description

This is responsible professional work in the clinic of a community mental health center setting. This position will service one or more counties in the catchment area—Lowndes, Autauga, Elmore.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

1. Take temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and record the information in the Electronic Health Record.
2. Document physical assessment of consumers.
3. Maintain complete and accurate documentation.
4. Observe safety and security procedures; promote a safe and pleasant work environment.
5. Review and assist with medication orders.
6. Respond to all patient messages and document conversations in electronic medical records.
7. Contact the doctor when any significant change in client medication is indicated.
8. Arrange for mental health services when needed and assist in obtaining other needed services.
9. Assist clients in applying for patient assistance programs.
10. Provide transportation for clients if necessary.
11. Complete all forms and paperwork required by Carastar.
12. Participate in training activities to increase skills and knowledge in caring for psychiatric clients and understanding psychotropic drugs.
13. Monitor consumers during telemedicine sessions and serve as liaison between consumer and prescriber.
14. Complete all necessary forms with consumers.
15. Process voicemails, refill requests, and other consumer messages, and follow up as needed, coordinating with nursing, front desk/call center, and providers.
16. Cross-train in other programs and settings as needed.

Perform related work as requested by supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Knowledge of principles, techniques, and standards of clinic setting.
• Knowledge of vital signs.
• Willingness to provide services in a non-traditional setting.
• Ability to relate warmly to clients.
• Ability to recognize adverse reactions to medication in clients.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Be a Registered or Certified Medical Assistant in Alabama with some experience.
• Maintain current CPI and Red Cross First Aid/CPR certifications.
• Hold a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Maintain at least liability coverage on personal vehicles.
