Job summary

Ascension is seeking a Lactation Consultant for St. Vincent Warrick Hospital in Boonville, IN, to support the WIC department. The role focuses on personalized lactation planning and breastfeeding guidance for new families on the day shift.

You will collaborate with nurses and physicians to align lactation care across teams, educate families, and contribute to quality improvements for infant health outcomes.

Qualifications

• Certification specializing in Lactation required
• Education: HS diploma equivalency with 2 years experience OR Associate's/Technical degree OR 4 years relevant experience
• Preferred: RN, Registered Dietician, or Bachelor's in Nutrition/Dietetics; breastfeeding experience; IBCLC licensure

Responsibilities

• Assess goals and challenges of each mother and infant to create lactation plans.
• Educate families with evidence-based techniques to nourish infants confidently.
• Guide nursing staff and physicians as a lactation resource across the medical team.
• Lead the design of patient teaching plans and data-driven initiatives to improve care.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

Assess the unique goals and challenges of each mother and infant to create personalized lactation plans that support long-term breastfeeding success.

Educate families by demonstrating evidence-based techniques, empowering them with the skills and knowledge to nourish their infants confidently.

Guide nursing staff and physicians as a specialized clinical resource, ensuring a unified and supportive approach to lactation care across the medical team.

Lead the design of patient teaching plans and data-driven initiatives to constantly improve the quality of care and health outcomes for our newest arrivals.

What minimum qualifications you’ll need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• Certification specializing in Lactation obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Education:

• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

Additional Preferences:

• RNs, Registered Dieticians, and those with a Bachelor's in Nutrition/Dietetics
• Experience with breastfeeding
• Certified lactation specialist or IBCLC licensure
