Job summary

State of South Carolina is hiring for a position that involves operating a range of heavy and medium equipment during construction and maintenance projects. The role includes driving a tandem dump truck, roller, and belt loader, plus installing culverts and performing concrete work on road projects.

Responsibilities include pothole patching, traffic control, and potential extended hours in emergencies or inclement weather.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Responsibilities

• Operates medium equipment such as tandem dump truck hauling materials to and from job sites.
• Operates large roller during asphalt paving operations.
• Operates belt loader while performing shoulder maintenance projects.
• Installs culvert pipe, constructs catch basins and pours concrete.
• Patches potholes and uses asphalt tools to spread and level asphalt for driveways and paving projects.
• Flags traffic and assists with setting up/removing traffic control for work zones.
• Assists in emergency and inclement weather operations; may require extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
