Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a maintenance worker to operate heavy equipment and perform road maintenance on the state highway system.

Responsibilities include operating Tandem Dump Trucks, Belt Loaders, and other machinery, plus coordinating traffic controls and responding to emergencies. A valid driver's license is required, with CDL Class A to be obtained within six months.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience.
• Must have a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Operate Tandem Dump Truck, Belt Loader, and other heavy equipment as part of road maintenance.
• Perform grading, shoulder work, ditches, and related tasks on the state highway system.
• Coordinate placement of traffic control devices per SCDOT manuals and guides.
• Assist in emergency and inclement weather operations; may require extended hours or shifts.
