Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's PennDOT is hiring a CDL Operator to support highway and bridge maintenance. You will operate trucks and loaders, perform pre/post checks, and assist mechanics, contributing to safer, smoother travel for the public.

You’ll work full-time, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM, Monday to Friday, with travel and overtime required. Starting pay is $45,888 per year, with opportunities to grow through additional certifications and field experience.

Qualifications

• Completion of Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program or equivalent CDL training.
• CDL Training or completion of Operator Trainee Program as alternative.
• Equivalent combination of experience and training accepted.

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks, loaders, and highway maintenance equipment.
• Maintain required CDL credentials and perform daily pre- and post-operational checks.
• Perform flagger responsibilities to manage vehicle flow when equipment is not in use.
• Carry out manual tasks such as digging, trimming brush, erecting signs, and using tools.
• Complete minor repairs and assist mechanics during larger repairs.
• Follow safety procedures and report injuries or equipment issues.
