Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's PennDOT is seeking a CDL Operator to operate roadway maintenance equipment and perform essential physical labor that supports highway and bridge upkeep, helping ensure safe travel for drivers statewide.

You will hold a PA Class A or B CDL with air brake removed, maintain medical certificate, and work toward additional endorsements and agency certifications while contributing to environmental and safety standards across field sites.

Qualifications

• Active Pennsylvania Class A or B CDL with Air Brake Restriction (L) removed
• Active Medical Examiner’s Certificate per FMCSA regulations
• Must obtain Pennsylvania Department of Transportation certification for operation of heavy trucks and loaders and two additional construction equipment within probationary period
• Position requires operation of equipment with a manual transmission
• Must obtain Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during probationary period

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks, loaders, and other required equipment safely and skillfully
• Maintain required CDL credentials and complete daily equipment checks
• Perform flagging duties to guide vehicles through active work zones
• Use hand tools and motorized tools to complete tasks such as clearing brush, repairing barriers, and cleaning drainage structures
• Follow all safety procedures, report incidents promptly, and stay aware of hazards in the work area
• Apply environmental protection standards during maintenance activities
