Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania through PennDOT seeks a CDL Operator A to operate trucks, loaders and other maintenance equipment to keep roads safe and open in Lancaster County.

You will collaborate with highway crews, assist with roadway repairs, and support daily maintenance activities while upholding safety and reliability standards. This full-time position offers stable weekday hours and opportunities within the Department of Transportation.

Qualifications

• Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program; or Graduation from a Commercial Driver's License Training School; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

• Equipment Operation: Operate trucks, loaders, and other assigned machinery for maintenance activities.
• License Compliance: Maintain required CDL credentials and complete pre and post operational checks.
• Traffic Control: Perform flagging duties to guide and protect traffic when equipment is not being operated.
• Manual Labor: Use motorized and non motorized tools to complete tasks such as cleaning culverts, cutting brush, and repairing guiderails.
• Equipment Care: Make field adjustments, perform minor repairs, clean equipment, and assist mechanics.
• Safety Actions: Observe work areas, follow safety procedures, report hazards, and use protective equipment.
• Environmental Duties: Follow environmental protection requirements for maintenance activities and training.
