Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a driver/handler to operate tractor-trailer combinations and perform related duties on the dock. You will complete pre/post-trip inspections and ensure freight is secured for safe transport.

Position involves intermittent heavy lifting, forklift/pallet jack use, and collaboration with Dispatch to meet delivery timelines. Hazmat awareness and DOT compliance are required, with opportunities for growth within a large national carrier.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or a CLP prior to entering job classification
• Must possess acceptable MVR based on hiring standards
• Must meet all DOT regulatory requirements under 391 FMC regulations
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator
• Basic written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to hook up and break down trailers with average lift force ~100 lbs several times a day
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 lbs several times a week
• Ability to sit for extended periods and maneuver in truck
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles/straight trucks
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies
• Handle freight with forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, and rope
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related documentation
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding
• Communicate with Dispatch on delays, arrivals, or equipment issues
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up/delivery needs
• Ask customers for additional business and provide leads to sales
• Perform job duties of road driver or freight handler as needed
• Chain vehicle tires as required
• Comply with laws and company policies
• Perform other duties as required
