Job summary

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL or commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under 391 FMC regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers that require an average lift force of ~100 pounds.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds, several times a week.
• Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, climb in/out of truck.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor/trailer.
• Handle freight using forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related paperwork.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding per DOT rules.
• Follow Dispatch instructions on delays, arrivals, or equipment issues.
• Provide excellent internal/external customer service.
• Communicate with customers to confirm pickup/delivery needs.
• Seek additional business and relay leads to sales when appropriate.
• Perform road driver or freight handler duties as needed.
• Chain tires when required.
• Follow all laws, regulations, and company policies.
