Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a driver to operate tractor-trailer combinations and perform non-driving duties such as forklift operation and dock work. Starting pay is $25.64 per hour, with responsibilities including safety inspections, freight handling, and coordinating with Dispatch.

The role requires a CDL or CLP, a clean MVR, and DOT compliance. Lifting up to 100 lbs, both independently and as part of a team, is expected. ADA accommodations available upon request.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under 391 FMC regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers requiring approx. 100 lbs lift.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight up to 100 lbs several times a week.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor/trailer.
• Perform freight handling using motorized and manual equipment (forklift, pallet jack, hand truck).
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related documentation.
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and placarding as required.
• Communicate with Dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, or equipment problems.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs.
• Ask customers for additional business and provide sales leads.
• Where needed, perform road driver or freight handler duties.
• Chain vehicle tires as required.
• Follow all laws, regulations, and company policies.
