Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. in Indiana is seeking a CDL-licensed driver to operate tractor-trailer combinations and support dock duties.

Through education and hands-on training, you'll become proficient in safe operation and freight handling. This role involves pre- and post-trip inspections, equipment hookups, securing freight, and maintaining accurate documentation, while delivering reliable service to customers.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid Class A CDL or CDL permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• MVR must meet company hiring standards.
• DOT regulatory requirements under 49 CFR.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry freight and operate dock equipment, as needed.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer, including doubles/straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.
• Handle freight using forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related documentation.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding per DOT shipments.
• Communicate with Dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, or equipment problems.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs.
• Ask customers for additional business, and provide leads to sales.
• Where needed, perform road driver or freight handler duties.
• Chain vehicle tires, as required.
• Follow all laws/regulations and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
