Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. is seeking a tractor-trailer operator with dock duties to join our team. You will perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections, operate the tractor-trailer combination, and assist with freight handling and loading to ensure timely deliveries.

Starting rate of pay is $25.64 per hour. Candidates must have a CDL or CLP, a valid MVR, and DOT compliance. Expect physical work including lifting up to 100 pounds and adherence to safety and dispatch instructions.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards
• Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier (FMC) regulations
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator
• Basic written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers that require an average lift force of approximately 100 pounds, several times a day
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds, several times a week
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer
• Perform freight handling using motorized and manual equipment such as forklift and pallet jack
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related documentation
• Comply with hazmat regulations and company procedures
• Communicate with Dispatch and follow instructions regarding delays, arrivals, and equipment issues
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs
• Ask customers for additional business and provide leads to sales
• Where necessary, perform job duties of a road driver or freight handler
• Chain vehicle tires as required
• Comply with laws/regulations and company policies
• Perform other duties as required
