Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a qualified tractor-trailer operator. Start rate is $25.64 per hour, with duties including operating tractor-trailers, dock work, and forklift handling while ensuring safety and compliance.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable MVR based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of FMC regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers that require approx. 100 pounds lift force, several times a day.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds, several times a week.
• Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer
• Perform freight handling using motorized and manual equipment such as forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related documentation
• Comply with hazmat regulations and match placarding to shipments
• Communicate with Dispatch on delays, arrivals, equipment problems, etc.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs
• Ask customers for additional business and provide leads to sales
• Where needed, perform road driver or freight handler duties
• Chain vehicle tires
• Comply with laws/regulations and company policies
• Perform other duties as required
