Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a professional to operate tractor-trailers and perform dock duties at the posted location. The role includes non-driving tasks such as forklift operation and handling freight with care, while ensuring compliance with DOT regulations.

Starting pay is competitive and reflects hourly wages for the Virginia location. Primary duties include conducting pre-trip inspections, securing loads, maintaining documentation, and communicating with Dispatch.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or a commercial learning permit (CLP).
• Must have acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
• Meet DOT regulatory requirements under 391 FMC regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds multiple times daily.
• Ability to sit for extended periods and work in varying weather/road conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles/straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Move freight using forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, and rope.
• Handle freight damage recoup/repair as needed.
• Verify and complete documentation and reports.
• Communicate with Dispatch on delays, arrivals, and issues.
• Engage with customers to determine pick-up/delivery needs and generate leads.
• Possibly perform road driver or freight handler duties as required.
