Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a skilled driver to operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles, and to perform essential dock and freight handling duties. The role includes pre/post-trip inspections, securing freight, and maintaining accurate documentation.

The candidate must hold a Class A CDL (or CLP), have a solid MVR, and meet DOT requirements. Physical capabilities include lifting up to 100 pounds and lifting equipment as needed; safety and teamwork are emphasized.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT regulatory requirements under 49 CFR Part 391.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers requiring ~100 lbs lift.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds several times a week.
• Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, climb in/out of truck.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.
• Perform freight handling using motorized and manual equipment (forklift, pallet jack, hand truck).
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related documentation.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and ensure placarding matches hazmat shipments.
• Communicate with Dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, equipment problems, etc.
• Provide internal and external customer service.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up/delivery needs.
• Ask customers for additional business and provide leads to sales.
• Where needed, perform road driver or freight handler duties.
• Chain vehicle tires as required.
• Follow laws, regulations, and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
