Job summary

FedEx Freight in Wayne, NJ is seeking a driver/operator to proficiently manage tractor-trailer operations, including dock work and forklift handling. The role requires CDL/CLP, strong safety discipline, and the ability to perform pre/post-trip inspections.

Responsibilities include freight handling, securing loads, and coordinating with Dispatch. Candidates should be able to lift up to 100 lbs, work with hazmat regulations, and contribute to customer service initiatives.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or a commercial learning permit (CLP).
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under 391 FMC regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down trailers that require significant effort (approx. 100 lbs).
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight up to 100 lbs several times a week.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Handle freight with forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
• Secure freight with pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related records.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding.
• Communicate with Dispatch about delays, arrivals, or problems.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Assist customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs.
• Where needed, perform road driver or freight handler duties.
• Chain vehicle tires as required.
• Follow laws and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
