Job summary

160 Driving Academy is the country’s largest CDL training network, seeking a Class A Instructor Trainer who teaches students from pre-trip inspections through to passing their CDL exams. You’ll train in yards and on-road settings, ensuring safety, consistency, and high-quality instruction across regional yards.

You’ll lead by example, mentoring students, maintaining training records, and collaborating with fellow instructors to uphold our curriculum.

Qualifications

• Valid Class A CDL with at least 24 months of verifiable Class A tractor-trailer driving experience.
• Manual transmission driving experience; state-appropriate license in effect.
• Able to pass DOT physical and DOT‑mandated drug/alcohol screening.
• MVR free of violations.
• Residency in the applying state or plans to relocate to work location.
• Strong communication and mentoring skills with patient, professional demeanor.
• 90‑day probationary period at hire.

Responsibilities

• Teach Class A driving skills using hands‑on training in outdoor yards on automatic and manual transmissions.
• Guide students through pre‑trip inspections, yard maneuvers, and on‑road driving.
• Prepare students to pass CDL testing standards on the first attempt.
• Track student attendance and progress; provide additional support when needed.
• Maintain accurate training records, evaluations, and documentation.
• Report incidents and accidents to lead and corporate in a timely manner.
• Work closely with fellow instructors and the Lead Instructor to deliver a consistent student experience and follow the curriculum.
• Help keep the yard and building clean and presentable; cover for other instructors as needed.
