Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc is seeking a CDL-A driver to pick up and deliver freight between service centers and customers, supporting the selling process.

This role requires a valid CDL, DOT compliance, ability to lift up to 100 lbs, and stamina to drive in diverse conditions. You will perform inspections, secure shipments, maintain records, and pursue additional business opportunities with customers.

Qualifications

• Must have class A CDL with double/triple, hazmat and tank endorsements; automatic transmission restriction allowed.
• One year of experience within the last three years or completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
• Must have acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) per hiring standards.
• Must meet all DOT regulatory requirements under 49 CFR 391.
• Long combination vehicles (LCV) qualification and certification for listed states (AZ, CO, FL, ID, IN, KS, MT, ND, NV, OH, OK, OR, SD, UT).
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds several times a week.
• Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, climb in/out of truck.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combinations including doubles/triples and/or straight trucks.
• Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Freight handling using forklift, pallet jack and hand truck.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and procedures.
• Collect cash or checks for freight charges and maintain documentation.
• Follow dispatch instructions and communicate delays and equipment problems.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs and solicit additional business.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Ask for additional business and provide leads to sales for opportunities.
• May be required to chain vehicle tires.
• May perform road driver or dock duties as needed.
• Comply with laws and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
