Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a CDL driver candidate to operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and straight trucks, with dock duties as required. You will perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections, hook/unhook trailers, and handle freight using forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck, ensuring secure loads and compliance with DOT rules.

The role emphasizes safe operation, dispatch communication, and customer service.

Qualifications

• CDL A or CLP before entering job classification.
• Acceptable MVR per hiring standards.
• DOT regulatory requirements under FMC 391.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds several times a day.
• Ability to sit, bend, twist, squat, climb in/out of truck.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.
• Perform freight handling using motorized and manual equipment (forklift, pallet jack, hand truck).
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Communicate with Dispatch regarding delays, equipment problems, etc.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs.
• Ask customers for additional business and provide leads to sales.
