Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. in New Jersey is seeking a CDL‑A driver to pick up and deliver freight between service centers and customers, while supporting the sales process.

This role requires safe operation of tractors and trailers, pre‑trip inspections, load securement, and adherence to DOT regulations. You will complete documentation, interact with customers, and pursue opportunities for additional business.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL with double/triple, hazmat and tank endorsements (automatic transmission allowed).
• 1 year of driving experience within the last 3 years or completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
• Must have an acceptable MVR according to hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT regulatory requirements under 49 CFR Part 391.
• Experience with Long Combination Vehicles (LCV) in listed states or willingness to qualify.
• Ability to count and perform basic math and to communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer or straight trucks, including doubles/triples where applicable.
• Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Handle freight using forklift or pallet jack and hand truck.
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Complete required documentation and reports.
• Comply with hazardous materials regulations and DOT procedures.
• Collect payments as needed and maintain documentation.
• Follow dispatch instructions and communicate delays or issues.
• Engage with customers to determine pick-up/delivery needs and generate leads.
• Provide excellent internal and external customer service.
