Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a professional Driver to pick up and deliver freight between Service Centers and customers, while supporting the sales process.

You will operate tractor-trailer combinations, perform safety inspections, secure freight, handle orders, and ensure compliance with hazmat and DOT regulations. The role involves customer contact, documentation, and potential additional duties as needed.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with double/triple, hazmat and tank endorsements; automatic transmission CDL restriction allowed.
• One year experience within past three years or completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
• Must have acceptable MVR per hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT regulatory requirements under FMC regulations 391.
• LCV states require qualification if operating long combination vehicles.
• Ability to count and do basic math, with or without calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to lift/carry up to 100 pounds and operate in varying positions.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles/triples and straight trucks.
• Perform daily pre-trip safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and convert dollies.
• Handle freight with motorized/manual equipment (forklift, pallet jack).
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Complete required documentation and reports.
• Comply with hazmat and DOT regulations.
• Collect payments for freight charges and maintain docs.
• Follow dispatch instructions and communicate delays or issues.
• Engage with customers to determine pickup/delivery needs and solicit additional business.
• Provide internal/external customer service and generate leads for sales.
• May perform chaining of tires or duties of road/dock roles as needed.
