Job summary

FedEx Freight in New Jersey seeks a Class A CDL driver to pick up and deliver freight between service centers and customers. You will perform pre-trip inspections, secure loads, and communicate with dispatch to ensure on-time service.

The role includes competitive pay starting at $37.08/hour in NJ, with linehaul mileage pay and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision coverage, tuition reimbursement, and a 401(k) plan after one month of employment.

Qualifications

• Class A CDL with double/triple, hazmat and tank endorsements; automatic transmission allowed.
• Minimum 1 year experience in last 3 years or completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
• Must have acceptable MVR per hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT/FMCSA 391 requirements.
• LCV experience required in AZ, CO, FL, ID, IN, KS, MT, ND, NV, OH, OK, OR, SD, UT.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry up to 100 pounds several times a week.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles/triples and/or straight trucks.
• Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Handle freight with motorized and manual equipment (forklift, pallet jack, hand truck).
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and procedures.
• Collect payments and maintain documentation.
• Follow dispatch instructions and communicate delays or problems.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up/delivery needs and solicit additional business.
• Provide internal and external customer service.
• Ask for additional business and pass leads to sales.
• May perform tire chaining or duties of road/dock worker as needed.
• Comply with laws, regulations, and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
