Job summary

UPMC Passavant is hiring a Part-Time Patient Care Technician for the Night Program at the McCandless location. Shifts are 24 hours per week, straight nights, with an additional $2 per hour off-shift differential.

Compensation scales by title: Care Attendant, Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Technician, and Senior levels. Responsibilities include direct patient care under RN supervision, vital signs, EKGs, and documentation, while maintaining infection control and safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• One year of patient care experience or enrollment in a health program with at least one clinical rotation.
• Successful completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician training.
• Completion of basic information systems training.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Medication access limited to distribution to licensed nursing staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under RN direction, including assisting with ADLs, procedures, and therapies.
• Perform core PCT responsibilities: vital signs, telemetry, specimen collection, EKGs, basic dressings.
• Assist with unit and patient needs (call lights, meals, transport, monitoring).
• Maintain a safe, clean environment following infection control and safety protocols.
• Document care accurately and complete clerical tasks as needed.
• Support unit operations by stocking supplies and assisting with department activities.

UPMC Passavant is hiring a Part-Time Patient Care Technician to support our Night Program at the McCandless location. Employees receive an additional $2.00 per hour on top of the current off-shift differential.

This role is part of the UPMC Inpatient Patient Care Support Career Ladder, offering opportunities for growth and advancement. Title and rate of pay are determined based on education and experience. Candidates must have at least 6 months of patient care experience to qualify for the Night Program.

Title and rate of pay will be determined based upon individual qualifications, experience, and education. The minimum hourly starting rates for each level are as follows:

• Care Attendant: $18.19
• Nursing Assistant: $18.59
• Patient Care Technician: $18.99
• Patient Care Technician, Senior: $19.19

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct patient care under RN direction, including assisting with ADLs, procedures, and therapies
• Perform core PCT responsibilities, including vital signs, point-of-care testing, telemetry application, specimen collection, bladder scans, EKGs, and basic dressings
• Assist with unit and patient needs (e.g., responding to call lights, meal delivery, patient transport, and monitoring)
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment while following infection control and safety protocols
• Monitor patients and report changes in condition or equipment issues promptly
• Document care accurately and complete clerical tasks as needed
• Support unit operations by stocking supplies and assisting with department activities
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to support coordinated care
• Demonstrate professionalism by building positive relationships, supporting team initiatives, and seeking opportunities for growth and development
• Respond to emergent situations and provide patient supervision or assistance as appropriate

• High school diploma or equivalent

  • One year of patient care experience

• Completion of basic information systems training
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Medication access limited to distribution to licensed nursing staff

Licensure/Certification/Clearances:

• Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification (AHA-compliant with skills demonstration) required within 30 days of hire

• Act 34 Criminal Clearance
