UPMC Passavant – Cranberry Township is accepting applications for a Full Time Patient Care Technician in the Cranberry ED. You will work under RN direction providing advanced patient care, including ADLs, telemetry, and vital signs, while maintaining safety and infection control standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2 years healthcare experience or 1 year experience with clinical rotation enrollment or health sciences bachelor.
  • Completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician Senior training.
  • Completion of basic information systems training.
  • Basic arrhythmia course with ongoing annual competency.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced patient care under RN direction, including ADLs, procedures, therapies, and patient monitoring
  • Perform core PCT competencies: vital signs, point-of-care testing, telemetry, specimen collection, EKGs, bladder scans, dressings, catheter removal, and restraint application per protocol
  • Assist with unit and patient needs including call lights response, meal delivery, patient transport, and transport of cardiac monitored patients
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment following infection control and safety protocols
  • Monitor patients and report changes in condition or equipment issues promptly
  • Document care accurately and complete clerical functions as needed
  • Support unit operations and quality initiatives, including project participation
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to support coordinated care
  • Demonstrate professionalism and ownership of assignments to support team performance
  • Provide patient and family education under RN direction and respond to emergent situations as appropriate

Responsibilities:

  • Provide advanced patient care under RN direction, including ADLs, procedures, therapies, and patient monitoring
  • Perform all core PCT competencies, including vital signs, point-of-care testing, telemetry, specimen collection, EKGs, bladder scans, dressings, catheter removal, and restraint application per protocol
  • Assist with unit and patient needs (e.g., responding to call lights, meal delivery, patient transport, and monitoring), including transport of cardiac monitored patients

Educational/Knowledge Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One of the following:
    • Two years of healthcare experience
    • One year of healthcare experience and enrollment in a PT, OT, PA, or related healthcare program with at least one completed clinical rotation
    • One year of healthcare experience and a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field
  • Successful completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician Senior training
  • Completion of basic information systems training
  • Successful completion of a basic arrhythmia course with ongoing annual competency
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Completion of an annual professional contribution (assigned after hire)
  • May transport medications between departments; limited to transport only

Licensure/Certification/Clearances:

Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within 30 days of hire

Act 34 Criminal Clearance

Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

Act 33 with renewal

Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
