Job summary

Agency HRA/DEPT OF SOCIAL SERVICES in New York City seeks an Associate Benefits Opportunity Specialist I to supervise BOS staff and oversee eligibility determination, financial planning, and employment planning for families in need. This role collaborates across FIA components to promote self-sufficiency.

The position emphasizes supervision of case management, processing complex applications, and ensuring accurate benefits determinations within City rules and regulations.

Qualifications

• Four-year high school diploma or equivalent and three years of qualifying social/human services experience.
• Bachelor's degree plus 18 months of experience as Benefits Opportunity Specialist or similar.
• Substitution of college credits may be allowed with 60 credits for 9 months of experience.

Responsibilities

• Supervise BOS staff who handle the entire application process for new applicants and related cases.
• Assign applications to staff, review recommendations and sign off on benefits and case entries.
• Supervise intake and eligibility interviews for immediate needs, SNAP, Medicaid, and employment services.
• Prepare daily/weekly statistics and monthly audits of work performed.
• Provide case consultation and guidance on difficult cases in planning processes.
• Oversee post-establishment case management and ensure ongoing eligibility and employment plans.
