Job summary

Rutgers University-Camden is seeking a Career Management Specialist to counsel students and alumni on career goals, resumes, cover letters, interview skills, and graduate school applications. You will report to the Assistant Director for the Career Advancement Center and lead efforts to strengthen career readiness across campus.

Responsibilities include delivering seminars, administering career inventories, and partnering with faculty, clubs, and alumni mentors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in counseling, educational psychology, social work, human resources or related field plus 2 years of career counseling experience
  • Excellent computer literacy and interpersonal, oral, written and editing communication skills
  • Experience administering and interpreting career assessment instruments (e.g., Strong Inventory, Myers-Briggs) and using Handshake system

Responsibilities

  • Counsel students and alumni one-to-one on career issues and development plans
  • Develop and deliver seminars, classroom presentations, and events to boost career readiness

Posting Summary

Rutgers University Camden is seeking a Career Management Specialist. Reporting to the Assistant Director for the Career Advancement Center, a department focused on helping students develop career goals and skills from their first year through graduation and beyond. Counsels students and alumni via one-to-one sessions on complex career issues and individual career development plans that may include academic major and career decisions, critiquing resumes, cover letters, other job search correspondence, practicing interviewing skills and career readiness. Performs student engagement initiatives; responsible for creating, implementing, and executing seminars, classroom presentations, programs and events that strengthen student career readiness. Administers and interprets vocational and personality inventories and utilizes career guidance software. Provides, program development and advising for students applying to graduate school including pre-health professions, pre-law and general graduate school applicant process. Works on collaborative and specialized programming with faculty, student services professionals, campus clubs and organizations. Establishes relationships with alumni to serve as mentors and/or as potential employers. Acts as a liaison between the Career Center and designated academic departments. Provides resolution to an assortment of problems of moderately complex scope. Demonstrates good understanding of the theoretical and applied bases for particular field of specialization.

Salary Details: Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, within university policy and salary schedules, as well as departmental budgets.

Minimum Salary: 68278.480

Mid Range Salary: 84393.980

Maximum Salary: 100509.480

Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in counseling, educational psychology, social work, human resources or a related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience, plus a minimum of two years of experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of career counseling theories and methodologies for individuals and groups.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent computer literacy, interpersonal, oral, written and editing communication skills are also required. Must have the appropriate qualifying education and/or experience to administer and interpret career assessment instruments i.e. Strong Inventory etc.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in counseling, social work, human resources or related discipline preferred.

Equipment Utilized: This position requires excellent technical skills with the knowledge of Microsoft Office platforms, career development software, and knowledge of other online assessments, including the Strong Interest Inventory and Myers-Briggs online assessments. Incumbent will become familiar and comfortable with using all facets of the Handshake System.
