Rutgers University-Camden is seeking a Business Specialist. The Business Specialist provides financial planning, analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and operational support for assigned academic or administrative units within Rutgers University-Camden. Reporting to the Business Manager, the position serves as an integral member of the team by preparing financial analyses, developing budget and forecast documentation, monitoring financial performance, and coordinating operational financial activities that support informed decision-making.
Working collaboratively with department leadership, faculty, staff, and central administrative offices, the Business Specialist assists in the preparation of annual operating budgets, monthly forecasts, financial reports, budget-to-actual analyses, personnel funding analyses, and resource planning activities. The position prepares financial documentation, maintains planning models and workpapers, supports compliance with University policies and procedures, and coordinates financial transactions and operational processes with Accounting & Shared Services, Procurement, Human Resources, Payroll, and other University partners.
The Business Specialist contributes to sound fiscal stewardship by identifying financial discrepancies, maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end and year-end activities, and ensuring the timely preparation of financial documentation. The position also participates in continuous improvement initiatives by recommending enhancements to financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and business processes while supporting the implementation of standardized FP&A methodologies, tools, and best practices across the organization.
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, within university policy and salary schedules, as well as departmental budgets.

Minimum Education and Experience: Requires a Bachelor's degree preferably in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices (GAAP). Also requires a minimum of two years of relevant experience in a financial/accounting function.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must have excellent communication skills and computer literacy; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Must be skilled in understanding database structure and have the ability to manipulate data imports and exports for financial reporting and analysis. Knowledge and experience with journal entries, financial statement preparation, and general accounting concepts are also required.
Ability to work independently and to exercise confidentiality and discretion in the operational decision-making process.
