Job summary

Norfolk State University is seeking a Career Ambassador to serve as a peer representative of Career Services and to assist students with career-related questions. You will promote programs, events, and resources while conducting quick resume scans and helping students set up Handshake and LinkedIn.

You will also take professional headshots, support career fairs and workshops, and help connect students with career opportunities across campus, including social media outreach and event promotion.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and support Career Closet/Dress for Success resources.
  • Help students access Candid Career and other career resources.
  • Take and promote professional headshots.
  • Support career fairs, employer panels, workshops, and networking events.
  • Greet and provide hospitality to visiting employers.
  • Participate in weekly Career Services tabling and campus outreach.
  • Share career opportunities with student organizations, classes, and campus communities.
  • Create and share career-related social media content.
  • Help promote weekly employer events and career opportunities.
  • Collect student feedback about career needs and interests.
  • Refer students to Career Services staff for additional support.
  • Represent Career Services and the Spartan Standard with professionalism.
  • Serve as a positive, approachable, and knowledgeable Career Services presence across campus.

Wage employees are paid an hourly rate for actual hours worked and are limited to working 1500 hours per year and can only work a maximum of 29 hours a week. Work hours must be counted on the basisof the twelve-month period beginning May 1 of each year and April30 of the following year. Wage employees in all agencies (all branches of government) are limited to working no more than 1500 hours during each twelve-month period of May 1-April 30. Should you work 1500 hours prior to April 30, your services will be terminated immediately. You will not be eligible for employment again until May 1. It is the responsibility of the employee and supervisor, aswell as the Office of Human Resources, to monitor these hours toensure compliance to policy. Wage employees may not earn leave nordo they have access to the Grievance Procedure process. They arenot covered by the provision of the Virginia Personnel Act and arenot entitled to the benefits afforded employees occupyingclassified positions.
