Job description

The student will be employed in the Department of Chemistry andwill support the daily operations of the instructional chemistrylaboratories by preparing laboratory materials, solutions, andequipment for student use. Assists with inventory management,restocking supplies, data entry, labeling, and sample organization.Maintains laboratory cleanliness by washing glassware, caring forinstruments, and ensuring workspaces remain organized andfunctional. Follows established laboratory safety procedures andcontributes to a safe learning environment for students, faculty,and staff. Performs additional duties as assigned by the LaboratoryManager or faculty supervisor to support laboratory instruction andoperations.

Wage employees are paid an hourly rate for actual hours worked are limited to working 1500 hours per year and can only work amaximum of 29 hours a week. Work hours must be counted on the basisof the twelve-month period beginning May 1 of each year and April30 of the following year. Wage employees in all agencies (allbranches of government) are limited to working no more than 1500hours during each twelve-month period of May 1-April 30. Should youwork 1500 hours prior to April 30, your services will be terminatedimmediately. You will not be eligible for employment again untilMay 1. It is the responsibility of the employee and supervisor, aswell as the Office of Human Resources, to monitor these hours toensure compliance to policy. Wage employees may not earn leave nordo they have access to the Grievance Procedure process. They arenot covered by the provision of the Virginia Personnel Act and arenot entitled to the benefits afforded employees occupyingclassified positions.
