Responsibilities include communicating with patients about referrals, verifying requirements with insurers, and documenting activities in the EMR. Strong customer service, organization, and problem-solving skills are essential for success.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Working knowledge of general medical office procedure and medical terminology.
• Strong customer service skills required.
• Proficient computer skills including internet use and basic applications.
• Effective communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are essential.
• Excellent problem solving abilities are necessary.
• Must be able to follow instructions.

Responsibilities

• Respond to questions, requests and concerns regarding patient referrals, care coordination or follow-up status.
• Contact patients regarding pending referrals and/or diagnostic testing.
• Verify referral and authorization requirements with insurance and policy standards.
• Complete referral processes within required time frames.
• Schedule, coordinate, and communicate referral appointments with outside specialists.
• Document and track referral information in the EMR.
• Request and obtain prior authorizations from insurance carriers.
• Verify patient demographics and insurance information when needed.
• Protect patient confidentiality and privacy.
