Job summary

Bon Secours Mercy Health in Youngstown, OH seeks a Certified Surgical Technologist for the Cardiac Team at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. You will assist surgeons and nurses, prepare sterile equipment, and maintain aseptic technique in a fast-paced cardiac OR.

The role requires 2 years in an operating room, graduation from an accredited surgical technologist program, and certification by NBSTSA or equivalent within one year. BLS is preferred; on-call and shift rotation are standard.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program.
• Two years in an operating room required.
• Cardiovascular OR experience preferred.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (NBSTSA) or Certified Surgical First Assistant within 12 months of hire.
• BLS certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Functions as scrub person during operative procedures by assembling supplies and equipment.
• Prepares sterile supplies and instruments, performs surgical counts with RN.
• Maintains sterile field and aseptic technique; assists with drapes and instrument delivery.
• Retrieves specimens and labels them; ensures complete case preparation.
• Monitors instrument sets and coordinates with cardiac coordinator for repairs or replacements.
• Provides training and direction to department staff; may include room sanitation and patient transport.
