Job Profile Summary

This role focuses on using various imaging techniques and practices to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. It involves performing ultrasound duties, utilizing ultrasound technology to provide images of internal body structures. This position requires specialized knowledge gained through vocational education, training, and experience. It is typically applied to patient care or scientific/laboratory jobs, requiring an experienced level of knowledge of procedures and tools. The role operates under moderate supervision, handling routine problems and occasionally requiring interpretation or deviation from standard procedures, with communication that may need some explanation or interpretation.

Job Overview

Under the supervision of the clinical leader, performs cardiac ultrasound studies accurately, safely, and efficiently to support cardiological diagnoses. Performs and interprets diagnostic cardiac ultrasound procedures including m-mode, 2-D real-time imaging, and Doppler techniques (pulsed, CW, and color).

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Radiology or related field.
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (CCI).
  • Basic Life Support Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Science.
  • Two years of clinical experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs cardiac ultrasound examinations using various techniques and provides preliminary interpretation to cardiologists.
  • Performs echocardiograms in various hospital units and assists physicians with advanced studies.
  • Maintains equipment and follows infection control practices.
  • Prepares patients, explains procedures, and obtains clinical information.
  • Records and analyzes ultrasound data, including 3D echocardiographic data.
  • Ensures tests are read by cardiologists and contributes to final reports.
  • Participates in quality control and maintains documentation.
  • Assists in training new staff and maintains supplies.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, occasional sitting and walking, lifting 30-35 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity and visual and auditory acuity.
  • Exposure to contagious diseases and radioactive materials.
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy and physiology for tailored examinations.
  • Proficient in various ultrasound procedures and modalities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
