Job Profile Summary

This role focuses on using various imaging techniques and practices to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. It involves performing ultrasound duties, utilizing ultrasound technology to provide images of internal body structures. The role requires specialized knowledge or skills gained through vocational education, training, and experience. It is most commonly applied to patient care and scientific/laboratory jobs. An experienced level role, requiring basic knowledge of procedures and tools obtained through work experience and vocational or technical education. Works under moderate supervision, solving routine problems, and may require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures. Communication of information that requires explanation or interpretation is also part of the role.

Job Overview

Under the supervision of the clinical leader, effectively performs all phases of cardiac ultrasound studies according to policy and procedure, ensuring safety, accuracy, and timeliness, which are necessary for cardiological diagnoses. The position performs and interprets various diagnostic cardiac ultrasound procedures, including m-mode, 2-D real-time imaging, and Doppler techniques (pulsed, CW, and color), with minimal supervision.

Job Description
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate degree in Radiology or related field.
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (CCI).
  • Basic Life Support Certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Science.
  • Two (2) years of clinical experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:

The listed duties are general and not all-inclusive; other duties may be assigned.

  • Performs cardiac ultrasound examinations using various techniques and provides preliminary interpretations to cardiologists.
  • Performs echocardiograms in various laboratory and clinical settings.
  • Assists physicians with transesophageal, intraoperative, and 3D studies, and supports research data collection.
  • Maintains equipment and follows infection control practices.
  • Handles billing processes accurately.
  • Prepares patients, explains procedures, and collects clinical information.
  • Obtains recordings and measurements during exams.
  • Exports and analyzes 3D echocardiographic data offline.
  • Ensures tests are reviewed by cardiologists and contributes to reports.
  • Participates in quality control and maintains documentation.
  • Assists in training new sonographers and interns.
  • Maintains supplies as directed by the supervisor.
Physical Requirements:
  • Frequent standing, occasional sitting and walking, lifting 30-35 lbs.
  • Moving equipment and patient handling.
  • Manual dexterity and sensory abilities for examinations.
  • Close contact with patients, including those with contagious diseases or radioisotope exposure.
Skills & Abilities:
  • Deep knowledge of anatomy and physiology for tailored examinations.
  • Proficiency in various ultrasound procedures.
  • Ability to focus during long procedures and work independently.
  • Good judgment, professionalism, and adaptability to schedule changes.
  • Effective communication skills and attention to detail for patient care and collaboration.
