Job summary

BARNES & NOBLE COLLEGE seeks an Assistant Store Manager to partner with the Store Manager and lead daily campus store operations, delivering an exceptional customer experience and driving business results.

You will recruit, train, and develop a high-performing team across Course Materials, General Merchandise, Café/Convenience, and Trade Books, while ensuring inventory accuracy, merchandising standards, and campus relationships are managed with professionalism.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of retail experience, with at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role.
• Experience with retail operations, merchandising, inventory management, and customer service.
• Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
• Excellent customer service, communication, and relationship-building abilities.
• Proficiency with POS systems and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily sales floor operations by delivering exceptional customer service, coaching team members.
• Partner with the Store Manager to oversee daily store operations and serve as Manager-on-Duty as needed.
• Recruit, hire, train, coach, schedule, and develop store team members.
• Drive sales and operational performance by analyzing business trends and managing controllable expenses.
• Build strong relationships with customers, campus partners, and team members while resolving customer concerns with professionalism.
• Develop expertise across all store departments and provide leadership in Course Materials, General Merchandise, Café/Convenience, and Trade Books.
• Support daily store operations by executing merchandising, inventory management, stock replenishment, order fulfillment, and sales transactions.
• Champion a clean, safe, and organized store environment.
