Job summary

Wheaton College is seeking a Public Safety Switchboard/Dispatcher to handle emergency and non‑emergency calls, and to maintain the college switchboard. The role reports to the Operations Manager and requires calm, professional communication with officers and callers.

The dispatcher will answer lines, dispatch officers, manage ARMS entries, and provide directory information from the switchboard. Proximity access and basic office software are involved in daily tasks.

Qualifications

• One year related experience or training.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to articulate and convey information in a clear concise manner.
• Computer literate with Microsoft Office package.
• Ability to understand and speak the English language.
• Ability to learn and apply new information quickly and accurately.

Responsibilities

• Answer Public Safety phone calls, monitoring emergency lines and other office lines.
• Dispatch Public Safety Officers to a variety of calls for service, acting as a liaison between officers and the caller.
• Enter calls into ARMS (Automated Records Management System) and monitor officer activity.
• Answer College switchboard calls, assisting with directory information and transferring calls.
• Provide general campus information representing the college in a professional and friendly manner.
• Dispatches Public Safety Officers to a variety of calls for service; operates base radio system.
