Job summary

Indiana University Bloomington’s IU Student Health Center seeks an administrative support specialist to assist daily operations within the Office of Student Life. You will greet patients, schedule appointments, update records, and handle clerical tasks in a safe, HIPAA-compliant environment.

The role is a temporary academic position for the fall semester with potential extension based on department needs and student scheduling.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled at Indiana University Bloomington
• Preferred: studying pre-med, nursing, dental, or public health degrees

Responsibilities

• Greets and assists patients during check-in and check-out.
• Answers and directs phone calls professionally; provide basic clinic information.
• Schedules new and follow-up appointments using clinic software.
• Verifies and updates patient demographic and insurance information.
• Supports inventory management by tracking supplies and ordering as needed.
• Maintains accurate and confidential patient records in compliance with HIPAA.
• Assists with general clerical duties (filing, preparing paperwork, scanning).
• Helps maintain a clean, organized reception area.
• Follows the Start-of-Day and End-of-Day Checklists.
• Communicates effectively and professionally with staff and supervisors.
• May assist with clinical support tasks such as obtaining vital signs (as needed).
