Job summary

University of Michigan is seeking a Fire Inspector to join the Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) team. Reporting to the University Fire Marshal, the role inspects university facilities to ensure compliance with NFPA and other safety standards, supporting fire prevention and life safety across campus.

Responsibilities include conducting annual inspections, addressing deficiencies, liaising with the State Fire Marshal's Office, reviewing construction plans, and providing fire safety training

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in fire science, engineering, chemical sciences, or related field.
• 3 years of experience in fire science.
• Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Conduct, document, distribute, and track annual fire safety inspections for university facilities.
• Follow up on inspection deficiencies to ensure timely corrective action.
• Coordinate with local fire departments and state regulators on inspections and compliance.
• Review construction plans to ensure NFPA and related code compliance.
• Provide fire extinguisher training and assist with safety awareness activities.
