Job summary

The University of Houston is seeking a Telecommunicator I to maintain communications with on‑duty officers and security personnel, monitor safety systems, and respond to both emergency and routine inquiries on campus. You will answer calls, assist walk‑ups, coordinate police responses, operate multiple computer systems, and stay current with safety policies.

This role requires excellent communication, 30+ WPM typing, and the ability to work varied shifts including weekends.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required or substituted by related experience.
• Minimum of one year related job experience; education may substitute for experience.

Responsibilities

• Answers emergency and non-emergency phone calls and coordinates the response of law enforcement officers.
• Monitor various security and safety systems to ensure a safe environment.
• Communicates with officers as they patrol the campus as necessary.
• Uses a range of computer systems, entering, updating, and recovering data as necessary.
• Adheres to and communicates changing safety policies as necessary.
• Serves as a point of contact after hours and on weekends for all university-related inquiries.
• Attends to faculty, staff, and students who visit the walk-up window.
