Job summary

Westfield State University seeks a Dining Supervisor to oversee meal service, supervise staff, and ensure quality, safety and sanitation during each service period. The role emphasizes proper setup, serving, and maintaining standards across dining areas.

This on-campus, 35-week position requires leadership, training and daily coordination of dining operations, including event support and cash handling. It involves two shift patterns and direct supervision of student workers.

Qualifications

• Ability to understand and apply laws, rules, policies governing the department.
• Ability to judge quality, appearance and condition of foods by senses.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to supervise staff, assign work and train.
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy objects.
• Ability to work varied shifts incl. weekends, holidays, nights.

Responsibilities

• Supervise setup and serving areas before and during meals.
• Inspect foods for taste, appearance and temperature during meals.
• Supervise portioning to control waste.
• Inspect equipment/dining room for cleanliness and repairs.
• Keep records of food usage and meals served daily.
• Train new employees using standard manuals.
• Assist in recording attendance for dining staff.
• Assist in planning/serving special banquets and functions.
• Assign work stations and duties to staff.
• Handle cash, meal tickets and deposits, assist in evaluations.
