Job summary

Portland Community College seeks a part-time Lab Coordinator to organize and oversee computer labs. You will open/close labs, supervise student staff, manage equipment inventories and assist students with software and hardware access.

You will also handle records, prepare reports, and contribute to lab promotions and classroom presentations. Experience with documenting work and leading technical activities is desirable.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to clearly document proposals, changes, and work accomplished to create a repeatable record of work done.
• Demonstrated ability to be self-directed in researching and taking on new technologies and best practices and implementing them.
• Experience as, or ability to act as, a technical lead including defining broad requests and mentoring other team members in technical concepts.
• Proven ability to work with technical and non-technical teams and coordinate work across multiple groups, both internal and external.

Responsibilities

• Opens and closes the computer labs and ensures cleanliness, safety and security of the lab area; reports maintenance problems.
• Oversees the work of student help, work-study and casual employees, including hiring, training and scheduling; manages budget and records for payroll.
• Maintains and inventories computers, software, printers, equipment and supplies; disposes of surplus equipment per procedures.
• Performs minor maintenance and coordinates vendor repairs for equipment and software.
• Assists students individually or in groups with access to computer technology and guides use of software/hardware.
• Provides information to students, staff, instructors and the public about the computer lab over the phone or in person.
• Maintains activity records and prepares reports from a statistical database.
• Prepares flyers and organizes open houses to promote and market the computer labs.
• Prepares and conducts classroom presentations and maintains lab webpages.
