Job summary

BARNES & NOBLE COLLEGE in Charleston, SC is hiring an Assistant Store Manager to support daily store operations and lead the team in delivering exceptional customer service and sales results.

You will supervise employees, assist with scheduling, training, and store performance, and work closely with the Store Manager to implement company directives. Strong cash handling and customer service skills are essential.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in a retail setting.
• 1+ year supervisory experience preferred or a graduate of the Best Seller Program.
• High school diploma/GED preferred.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Familiarity with financial and customer service principles.
• Basic reading, writing and accounting skills required.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills needed.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Support all store operations and departments in partnership with the Store Manager or General Manager.
• Involved in purchasing for departments, directing operational functions, and/or scheduling and team development.
• Deliver outstanding customer service to the academic and co-curricular community while helping the store meet or exceed sales goals.
• Identify business opportunities and motivate the team to create customer experiences that enhance bookstore loyalty.
• Direct training, counseling, and development of team members to maintain a high-performing store.
• Maintain an appealing sales floor with shelving, organization, and cleanliness.
• Assist with processing sales transactions involving cash, credit, or financial aid payments.
